Halfway Reflection

1.     Tenaciousness is a competency. What are the behaviors that you have used (or developed) to keep up with the requirements of this course?
I have developed many different attributes that have helped me with my progression in this class. Hard work and creativity definitely help with this course more than most others. I’d have to say the biggest competency would be planning ahead. The longer you give yourself to do the homework, the better your assignments will be.
2.     Tenaciousness is also about attitude. Talk about a moment or two when you felt like "giving up." What pulled you through? Do you feel like you've developed a tenacious attitude during the past two months? What experience or experiences most contributed to this?
I definitely felt like giving up when I had to do interview after interview. I pulled through by managing my time and just toughing it through. I have definitely become more tenacious in the past two months due to the large amount of workload I have been giving from this summer.
3.     Three tips. What are three tips you would offer next semester's student about (1) fostering the skills that support tenacity and (2) developing the 'tenacious mindset' ?
Fostering the skills that support tenacity:
1.     Always work hard and try and do all of the assignments for that week.
2.     Take time off to relax.
3.     Don’t overwork.
Developing the ‘tenacious mindset’:
1.     Plan out what you want to do when.
2.     Think of how to balance your life with school and life.

3.     Don’t let bad times prevent you from accomplishing your dreams.

  1. Hi Alan,
That is a great point you bring up there about taking time off. The brain needs time to rest. By resting we allow the brain to function more efficiently, which is why pulling all-nighters is a bad idea. I personally like to workout and meditate to take my mind away from school and charge my brain! Balancing life with school can be extremely difficult, but always planning rest time makes it all more manageable.

  2. Hey Alan. You are definitely correct by saying that future students should learn how to balance their lives and their workloads when they enroll in this course. I've had extremely stressful days, but I had to lock it up to get my work done. It developed my tenacity so that I can perform the interviews. I am glad to see that I am not the only one who thought this way.

  3. Hi Alan! GReat job making it this far into the course. I have to agree with you completely on planning as a way to succeed in the course. It is essential to keep on top of assignments and lectures. In addition it is just a good life skill to have. I think you make some really great tips-- a lot of times advice is too focused on how to succeed in work, and not life in general. Succeeding in life is keeping that balance between your work and home life. Great job!
